Eagle Direct Senior Developer March 2001 – April 2002

Worked on projects to aid (cable) companies retrieve reports regarding usage statistics about their clients and promotions. Since not all clients used the same database to store their information it was necessary to develop a system that would not only allow for commonly used databases to be accessed but also for custom database solutions to be accessed. For this reason the reporting engine was separated from the rest of the application and relied on a common layer to retrieve its information. This layer was designed around generic interfaces and COM objects to allow for future expansion of data types and transmission types. The common layer could be easily advanced to retrieve and manipulate information from the data source without affecting the rest of the application and in most cases without an explicit rebuild of the application. This led to shorter to field cycles when a client had a changing need from the system itself.

Project Details:

  • Analysis of data requirements from existing and new clients

Responsible for development of the company’s online reporting system. This system uses a combination of a Delphi written backend that processes user logins and security. The system takes HTML, ASP, or Java source files and modifies them according to custom tags. This page is then passed off to the appropriate interpreter with the final page is then passed on to the client. This was all achieved thru the usage of multiple interfaces that could then be combined into a scripting layer or data acquisition engine for the final product. Also worked on projects to aid the company in its day-to-day business needs including server monitoring applications, phone system monitors, and some custom hardware development.

Personal Info

I have many hobbies and projects that I try to keep up with. Some of them are as simple as my website or the software that I use to maintain my resume (you will be able to download it from the "Projects Page" soon). Others range to extremely complex robotic creations.

Probably my favorite thing to do is to grab my Canon EOS Rebel G (a 35mm SLR Camera) and go out to take photos of my Family and surrounding areas (you can see some of my photos by clicking on the "Family Pictures Site" menu on my website). Though if you are looking at my resume it’s probably not for photography reasons.

My robotics projects are primarily based on one of the following chips: MicroChip PIC processors, Zilog eZ8, MSP430, or the AVR Family. I don't do most of my development in their native Assembler; instead I opt for higher-level languages such as JAL, Basic, or C. This leads me to having to tweak the resulting assembly code every now and then (normally to make it fit into the processors limited memory) but for the most part works just fine. Currently I don't have any of my robotics projects on this site but I am a member of a local robotics group.

The "Kansas City Area Robotics Society" is a local group of people who are all interested in robotics. Each person has their own areas that they work in and for some projects (actually most) it takes more then one person to come up with the final answer. The group is still new and currently we are trying to recruit more members, so if you live in the Kansas City area let us know. The website for KCARS is http://www.kcars.us/.

The "Hobby" that I do the most is probably software development. I am fortunate to work in an area that I don't consider to be a burden, and that I don't mind taking home to work on every now and then. I've worked with many groups and projects related Delphi and its Development (it’s my language of choice) and feel that few other products keep up to the standards that Borland places into theirs. If you are curious about my coding standards then I suggest that you download a few of my projects and check them out. If one in particular catches your attention (and the source isn't already with it) then feel free to drop me an e-mail and I will see what I can do about sending you a section of the source for it (some of the projects that I work on do not have source that I release to anyone outside of a select group of people).

Thanks for your interest in my resume for the most recent copy please visit my website at: http://www.eonclash.com.

Best regards,
Jeremy Darling
